The One Place Sexual Assault & Rape Crisis Care program provides immediate crisis care, medical support, and emotional advocacy for survivors of sexual assault and rape. It helps survivors begin their healing journey while also ensuring public safety by collecting medical evidence that can be used by law enforcement.

• Survivors of any age who have experienced sexual assault within the last 72 hours
• Survivors living in Autauga, Butler, Crenshaw, Dallas, Elmore, Lowndes, Montgomery, Perry, or Wilcox counties

The program serves children, teenagers, and adults who have experienced sexual assault or rape within the past three days (72 hours) and who reside in central Alabama.

You can call the One Place Sexual Assault Hotline, which is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, year-round. The hotline only services survivors of sexual assault and rape.

Requests for services may be made by:

• Law enforcement
• Hospital emergency departments
• Survivors
• Anyone assisting the survivor

One Place is committed to having a forensic nurse and crisis counselor/advocate available within two hours of the call to our sexual assault and rape hotline.

Yes. All calls and services are private, discreet, and confidential.

At the One Place Family Justice Center, survivors are met by a forensic nurse and a crisis counselor/advocate, both trained in trauma-informed care.

• The forensic nurse will:
  • Provide a brief medical assessment
  • Explain survivor rights and treatment options
  • Review informed consent requirements
  • Collect forensic evidence (if the survivor chooses)

• The crisis counselor/advocate will:
  • Stay with the survivor during the exam
  • Ensure rights and options are protected
  • Provide emotional support throughout the process

No. Survivors are always in control of their care. You can accept or decline any part of the services, including whether or not to report the assault to law enforcement.

A crisis counselor/advocate will:

• Work with the survivor to create an individualized service plan
• Provide one-on-one counseling (in-person or by secure video)
• Help with practical needs, coping skills, reducing shame, and rebuilding strength

The One Place Sexual Assault and Rape Crisis Care program typically lasts 90 days. Before completion, the survivor and counselor will create an aftercare plan that may include long-term counseling with a partner agency or peer support programs.

No. All services are free of charge to survivors.
